SELF-PROPELLED GLIDER
ASK 21 MI
The Schleicher ASK 21 MI is a glider designed by Rudolf Kaiser. This two-seat sailplane or "glider" is suitable for flight training, recreational flying and can perform aerobatics. This aircraft was 3D modelled and adapted by Santiago "Cubeboy" Cuberos for use in VRChat Aviation worlds.
SELF LAUNCH
While most gliders need to be launched by tug or winch, the signature feature of the ASK 21 MI is the rectractable rotary engine with fixed pitch propeller. Aircrews can launch and recover the glider without external launch support.

POWERED FLIGHT
The glider has an internal battery to power the rotary engine for short amounts of time. Pilots can use the engine to climb to altitude and extend gliding time. Learning how to efficiently activate and deactivate the engine in flight is part of mastering this glider.
RIDE THE WIND
In our worlds the ASK 21 MI is paired with a dynamic wind zone system made by KitKat, a VRChat coder. It is thanks to this system that gliding is not only possible, but enjoyable. For ease of use these zones are made visible with minor visual effects. Keep an eye out for them while you are in a glider.

PRECISION FLYING
Learning to rely on the wind and coordinated flight maneuvers is how to master flying this aircraft. Experienced pilots are able to keep the glider aloft for extended periods of time without relying on the engine.
INSTRUMENTS
The cockpit has a set of limited, but highly important instruments. This includes a yaw string on the canopy. In particular the vertical speed indicator (Vario) audibly beeps at different rates according to aircraft pitch.

AEROBATICS
The glider is capable of a limited number of air show worthy aerobatics while being flown by pilots that have mastered energy management and strategic use of its battery powered engine.

READ ABOUT VRCHAT AVIATION
The ASK 21 MI is one of many aircraft that fly in the virtual skies of VRChat - a place where aviation was least expected. Skyward Flight Media provides coverage of flight operations and hosts or sponsors events in VRChat Aviation. Read more of our posts about this unusual avenue of aviation
