Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) recently celebrated the 6th anniversary of MSFS 2020, bringing together developers, creators, and hardware partners from across the flight simulation community. Among the invited hardware partners was Pimax, joining other brands including MOZA, Next Level Racing, Tobii, and WINCTRL to celebrate this milestone with the global flight simulation community. The next phase of the celebration happens during a livestream on August 21st, 2026 @ 1800Z (1800 UTC / 12:00 PM MDT).
Microsoft Flight Simulator 6th Anniversary Celebration Livestreams
August 18th was the 6th anniversary for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. MSFS has been putting out some interesting stats about MSFS on their social media channels and a blog post in the past few days.

A major part of this celebration is a multi-part livestream on Twitch. In these livestreams pilots are completing a simulated circumnavigation around the world in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The August 21 livestream will be ending - or landing - in Chengdu, China, where the Microsoft Flight Simulator team will feature the Pimax Dream Air headset during the broadcast. Pimax will also share a message with the community celebrating six years of Microsoft Flight Simulator’s growth, with a Dream Air headset offered as a giveaway prize for livestream viewers.

Pimax Focus on Flight Simulation
Asobo Studios featuring manufacturers like Pimax during such important livestreams is a big deal. With the Microsoft Flight Simulator name carrying a storied legacy, the developers of each entry in the series are selective about who they work with. Pimax being included in celebrations this year is notable, but not totally unexpected. In flight simulation Pimax has been pushing to make their brand and virtual reality headsets known with all sorts of content creators and media organizations.
The Pimax Dream Air is their newest headset. It made a rather large impression at FlightSimExpo 2026 with it being used by many exhibitors at this event. Its very lightweight, making it good for ultra-long sessions while still using Sony Micro-OLED displays, eye tracking with Dynamic Foveated Rendering, and support for both SLAM inside-out tracking and Lighthouse tracking options.
The venerable Crystal Light is the most "traditional" VR headset, offering high-resolution visuals, glass aspheric lenses, and flexible tracking options while not being as hardware demanding. This is the headset featured during the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 preview event to demonstrate the simulator’s VR experience.
We here at Skyward Flight Media have been experiencing the high quality of Pimax virtual reality headset quality with the Pimax Crystal Super Ultrawide during our ongoing collaboration series.
Pimax Collaboration Series: Crystal Super Ultrawide
We have been utilizing the Pimax Crystal Super Ultrawide and the new Pimax EVO software for all levels of flight simulation. Our reviewer 'KOSMOS' has been spending hours flying, fighting and navigating with the headset's immense pixel density, 140° horizontal field of view and foveated rendering to its maximum effect in many titles.

Reminder: Next Pimax Collaboration Series Article
Quick heads up, the next article in our Pimax Collaboration Series will be focused on Digital Combat Simulator. While it is a long-standing, highly detailed combat flight simulator, it is also somewhat notoriously difficult to get it working in virtual reality “just right”. How does the Pimax Crystal Super Ultrawide and its Pimax EVO software work within its environment? We will be sure to let you know.
