CEDEC 2019 Presentation: Regarding Ace Combat 7's Revolution of the Sky

2/10/2020Masato Kanno, the lead architect of the immersive and interactive sky found in Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. Kanno gained new experience in the development of environments using Unreal Engine 4 and trueSKY while working on Ace Combat 7. Kanno provided a lecture at CEDEC 2019 (Computer Entertainment Developers Conference) on September 4th, 2019 which provided information about the sky, clouds, its impact on game environments, truSKY program data, and more. Materials from his presentation, "Regarding Ace Combat 7's Revolution of the Sky" are now available in English, thanks to the translation efforts on TaskForce 23 which have been confirmed as accurate by Kanno himself.


The lecture was given on September 4th, 2019, at the PACIFICO YOKOHAMA convention center in Yokohama, Japan as a part of CEDEC 2019. For those that do not know, the Computer Entertainment Developers Conference is a conference for the computer entertainment industry. Through CEDEC, developers, and others that are a part of work related to the industry are able to exchange information and ideas to improve each other's development capabilities which in turn cultivates better products being produced by the industry.

The lecture was focused on information for those that are working with trueSKY or have an interest in presenting realistic sky and clouds in their products. His knowledge gained from the development of AC7 has been coupled with his experience of working with environments (sky, topography, etc.) on Ace Combat games since he joined Namco Co., Ltd in 1994. After working on Ace Combat 1, 2, 3, 04, 5, 6, 7, Assault Horizon, Infinity, X and Zero, his information on the extensive use and application of clouds can be found within his presentation materials.
